Dating Someone New on Valentine's Day; Should You?

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and so are the expectations and disappointments that come along with it when you’re searching the dating pool. Do not let the over-commercialized holiday do that to you.
Let’s set the scene; you are talking to your new guy, and it’s only been a few weeks by the time Valentine’s rolls around. You’re contemplating whether it is too fast, but at the same time secretly hoping that he does ask you to do something to celebrate. Trust me, my hopeless romantic self has been in the scenario too many times. Or maybe you’re talking to several guys and don’t want to give any of them the wrong impression by leading them on with a date on Valentine’s Day.
My advice is to skip it. When I first started talking to my now husband on Hinge, it was just a few weeks before Valentine’s Day, and we were having our first date around then. We opted to skip the 14th and go out on the 15th instead, because duh.
How cringe would a first date on Valentine’s be?
Instead, I threw a Leslie Knope-inspired Galentine’s Day celebration, and as she would day “You know my code: hoes before bros. Uteruses before duderuses…Ovaries before brovaries.” We watched love movies, ate more chocolate than Lucille Ball in her infamous factory scene, and even had a Play-Doh dick-making competition for the most realistic replica.
A friend is someone who knows your past, believes in your future, and loves you just the way you are. That’s hard to find, so turning it into a friends night, while still enjoying the Valentine’s theme took the pressure off feeling lonely, or the need for a guy to fulfill that emptiness.
I was around the girlies that I love and love me back, laughing and being silly. Nothing can beat that. It was perfect. 10/10 Recommend.
