Let’s talk about the red flags on dating apps We do not always know how to spot them, and honestly our lives would be so much easier if we had a guide.
Dating Apps, and profiles make it so easy to curate any image of yourself, and a lot can be told by what image someone chooses to portray for themselves. So, after years of spending time on dating apps, and going through the hell of it, this is my basic guide to red flags you need to look out for while swiping away. More detailed stories will come soon!
The Profile Pictures Are All Thirst Traps – This can apply to anyone, either guys or girls who are on dating apps. If every picture of a guy is shirtless, he is probably a narcissist. If every picture of the girl is at the gym, in a bikini, or half naked, the same goes for her.
Try to avoid this if you are looking for a meaningful relationship. If you’re looking for a hook-up that might be a good time, but not a long time, that is more suitable for these types of profiles.
I don't need your picture to look like a LinkedIn profile, just something cute.
Their Bio Sounds Douchey – When we’re looking at a dating profile, we have 2 things to go off that make us decide whether we will swipe left or right; their pictures, and their bio.
There is a difference between quirky or sarcastic, and just plain douchey! Here are a few examples of red flags in the bio to look out for; IQ, weight or height listed, has a cashapp/paypal/venmo etc, onlyfans link, “Minimum 6 foot, 6 figures, and 6 inches”, etc.
Other red flags; Women who have 3 kids from the 3 different dads, and still demand that their next partner have everything.
If there is tons of sexual innuendo throughout the bio, or the person tries to police how women behave in their bio, it's a no-go. It’s okay to have preferences, but if they are being condescending about it, gtfo.
I could ramble about this topic forever, but I think you get the gist here.
“They Have No Socials”: This one immediately strikes me as someone who is trying to hide something. It’s 2024. Everyone has some form of social media. If they say they don’t, they are probably married or playing a similar game that you should be far away from.
Asks For Your Snapchat Immediately: Snapchat is fun, and a great app to use with friends but it also has a reputation, and it is no secret that it gets used for nudes a lot.
There is the other side of it, which is that they want to see you naturally, and if you do in fact look like your pictures on the app.
If you are unsure of which vibes they’re giving off, skip giving your addy out.
Asks To “Play A Game”- “let’s play a game, and get to know each other... like 21 questions or something”
I’ve seen guys doing this since I was in middle school, and it is funny that they think they are being clever or innocuous with this approach when it is so blatant. It starts with a few questions about yourself, and before you know it you're getting asked about your boob size or panties. Creepy and immature.
Keeps Changing The Date – It’s okay to change a date once, but if your first date gets repeatedly pushed back, then maybe he’s just not that into you, and you should take the hint they, and the universe are giving you.
It is so easy to get stuck in the comfort of messaging behind a screen; trust me, I've been there, but it also leads to fizzling out if you spend too much time talking before meeting up.
Tries To Sext Before Meeting – Sexting is fun, everyone loves some good sexting, but if you are looking for a deep connection and not just getting 6 inches deep, stay away from it until you’re dating.
